Cellular Data Service Plans
Service For Your LAN-Cell Mobile 3G Cellular Router

It's Your Choice

To enable a cellular data network connection for your LAN-Cell 2 3G router, you need:
  1. A compatible cellular PC-Card (PCMCIA) or ExpressCard modem card

  2. A data service plan from your cellular carrier
You can contract with your preferred cellular service provider to obtain these items yourself or you can source one or both items through Proxicast or one of our resellers. With its 3G modem PC‑Card architecture, the LAN‑Cell 2 mobile 3G cellular router is carrier independent and can easily be upgraded as newer and faster cellular technologies, such as 3.5G, 4G, LTE and WiMAX become available. Contact Proxicast for more information regarding your available options.

Your Choice of Cellular Carriers

Below is a list of the leading US cellular carriers who offer cellular data service. Each of these carriers offers many different service plans. Plans may range from unlimited data service to low-cost "telemetry" plans designed for applications with predictable data transmission rates. Plans and rates change over time, please consult the specific carrier's web site for the most current service options and modems available

Also, your application may require certain network features, such as a static IP address, open non-blocked ports, upload and download speeds, etc... Our sales staff can help direct you to the best carrier and service plan options for your needs.

What Types Of Speed & Performance Can I Expect?

Your actual performance will depend on your cellular carrier, PC-Card modem and location. The tables below are designed to give you an idea of the "real world" performance that you may see from the LAN-Cell 2 cellular router. Please check with your wireless carrier to verify what type of service they offer in your desired coverage area.

CDMA Data Standards & Speeds

Most 3G cellular modems are backward compatible, so if the modem's fastest standard is not available, the modem will drop-back and try to use the next slowest standard until a connection can be made.

Do I Need a Static or Dynamic IP Address?

By default, most cellular carriers will assign your PC-Card modem a "dynamic" IP address that changes each time a new connection is made. In some cases, this default IP address is also a "private" or non-Internet routable IP address. If you do not need remote access to your equipment - for example you are just deploying a mobile "hotspot" for users, then a private dynamic IP is acceptable.

Obtaining a permanent "static" public IP address from your cellular carrier can simplify remote access to the LAN-Cell and your equipment, especially when setting up VPN. However, the LAN-Cell's Dynamic DNS (DynDNS) support reduces the need for static IP addresses in many situations, allowing dynamic public IP addresses to be used for remote access applications.

Some cellular carriers do not offer static IP addresses or offer them as part of a VPN service or other corporate-level service plan. Most wireless carriers charge a fee for static IP addresses, ranging from a one-time setup fee to monthly fees per address. Also, almost all cellular carriers who offer static IP addresses assign them via a DHCP "reservation" system based on the serial number or phone number of the modem. You should configure the LAN-Cell to obtain its cellular WAN IP address automatically from the carrier, even if it is a static IP address.

What If I Can't Get An "Unlimited" Plan?

Many 3G (third generation – EVDO / HDSPA / HSUPA / UMTS) cellular carriers have begun to enforce limits on their previously "unlimited" fixed-price data plans. Some wireless carriers now only allow a maximum of 5 GB of data per month.

Cell-Sentry is Proxicast’s exclusive new LAN-Cell 2 "watchdog" feature that monitors cellular usage and alerts administrators via E-mail when a user-defined threshold is reached. It can even block additional cellular usage via hard "not to exceed" limits to avoid overage charges. Cell-Sentry can monitor data or time usage to match the carrier’s billing policies.
